On top of what felt like the edge of the world, Jacy and Jon David exchanged intimate vows before God and their family.  Escaping from Austin to Malibu as their destination of choice, the two planned a private ceremony to celebrate the beginning of their new marriage adventure.  We are so grateful they had us along to celebrate.  The warm, calm, sunny day turned into the perfect evening as the sun set behind their exchange of vows.  We were so blessed by these two, their deep commitment to one another, and a deep love that overflowed to every whiteness who shared in their day.

Craving a little adventure this weekend?  I know we are.  Sadly, the mountain adventures will have to wait this weekend because duty calls.  I am so grateful that we can at least relive some amazing Yosemite adventures we had while documenting Liza + Edzel’s casual elopement this past year.  We hope you enjoy them as well:)

Publication | Interview With Kodak

130800_Big_Sur_000081310020

If you have been following our work for a while now it is no secret we have an absolute love for film.  Yes, we love motion picture film, but what I really mean is good ole fashioned, tried and true, analog film stock.  It is by far our most preferred medium for both still and motion picture.  (You can read a bit more about why that is here under the Artists section of our blog.)  Like so many talented film loving artists out there , we have been shooting Kodak film stock for both motion and still for years so when Kodak reached out to us about an interview regarding our Super 8 & 16mm films we were…. well, humbled to say the least.

It is no surprise to us that Kodak  film is still the preferred choice of major motion picture film makers and award winning television producers.  While it may seem like a whole industry is hopping on the digital bandwagon, legends in their field such as Spielberg, Nolan, Tarantino and a personal favorite in our household, Wes Anderson, are holding steadfast to their use of Kodak motion picture film.  Even some of our most favorite televisions series like Friday Night Lights, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead, just to name a small few, used film as their preferred medium.  Often times the viewer will prefer the look of film and not really know why.  It is our belief that for many, film imagery hits at the core of a person.  It is familiar, nostalgic, relational, realistic, and connects with more than the glimpse of the image but how the image makes them feel.  When Matt Stoffel of Kodak reached out about an interview we were thrilled at the opportunity to share a bit of our story.  Matt spent some time with Kevin, our principle cinematographer, allowing him to speak candidly about our beginnings and where we hope our love of film will take our family business.

We hope that you will take some time to head on over to the Kodak website and read the article yourself.  We hope you will share your thoughts in the comment section below the interview:)  Thank you to Matt and Kodak Motion Picture for supporting small businesses like ours, allowing us to continue to do what we love with the medium we love the most.

About_The_Why_We_Love

It’s here!  2014 is here and we can’t help but ask ourselves the reverberating question… “where did the time go?”  For some, the end of 2013 came with flash and pizzaz, and others possibly a quiet melancholy.  There are those who, with great strategy and discipline, crossed out every line on their  2013 “to do” list in an effort to kick off the New Year with a blank slate.  Others carry over the load from one year to the next hoping to get their “resolutions” jump started by Valentine’s Day.  Amongst the vast array of characters, the New Year beckons from each one to move onward.  There is no discrimination from the New Year, it arrives for all of us.  There is no judgement of where we have gone or where we plan on going.  Time doesn’t stop if we have fallen behind nor respite to give applause when we have finished first.  It is steadfast, ever-changing, omnipresent, and a guarantee in life that there will be more than one second chance for all of us.  Naturally when the clock strikes 12, we celebrate!

With the arrival of a New Year I am reminded that time itself has absolutely no expectation on us.  It is the one thing in life we are given an excess of and the only thing that it really requires of us in return is to move onward along with it.  A fair request, don’t you think?  I can’t help but feel convicted by my ongoing peeves with Ole Father Time.  I often act as if it moves by faster than I can keep up with, get angry when it catches me off guard,  or have constant fear and anxiety over how there never seems to be enough when I need it.  The harsh reality is that my qualm isn’t really with time itself but how I balance the time allotted me.

This year, Kevin and I are committed to taking a hard look at how we dedicate our time.  With the promise of another full year ahead we are encouraged by the fact that we have yet another chance to realign our priorities as we move onward.  We are willing to shed the idea that we have to do, be, and act perfectly, as the pursuit of that kind of vanity breeds the idea that time is never on our side or that we are living in some infinite rivalry. Rather we are hoping to move forward in 2014 being armed with the attributes of faith, generosity, community, compassion, stewardship, creativity, patience, hope, and love.  Be encouraged this New Year that time is on your side and that each tic of the clock is another stroke of grace and mercy bestowed.

We felt incredibly blessed to be a part of Jenn and Stephen’s wedding.  These two exude such love, joy, and connection… it is infectious!  We were thrilled they had us along to create a Super 8 vignette of their marriage celebration.  It was an amazing day at the Huron Substation working along some of our favorites, 10.11 Makeup and Sweet Emilia Jane.   We hope you enjoy their sweet film along with some behind the scenes companion stills from throughout the day.
