Through the medium of motion picture, The Why We Love captures stories with an evocative, raw, and artful approach. Using Super 8 and 16mm film, cinematographer, Kevin Snelson, curates one-of-a-kind nostalgic heirloom pieces to be cherished for years to come. Inspired by each couple, their love story, and the timeless nature of Kodak Film Stock, every film is handcrafted from beginning to end resulting in a personalized work of art.
So what’s the process like?
We are not your typical wedding videographers. Kodak Film is still our medium of choice;) The organic nature of film helps create an imaginative and nostalgic experience for the subject and the viewer. The sound of the cameras alone, while shooting, is enough to cause anyone within hearing distance to have an immediate flashback. The complete process is pretty simple and yet completely handcrafted. We shoot a variety of vintage cameras, have the film digitally ranked or do some dirty telecine ourselves, soundtrack the film, edit the film, and deliver on web and dvd. You view, share, laugh, cry, love and re-live!
How do you soundtrack the film?
We are often inspired by the day, the raw footage, the feel, and the couple themselves. Many hours are spent on crafting just the right soundtrack. Those hours are usually spent listening to new and old music, digging into our vinyl collection. It is a huge creative influence of ours and the bone structure to our soundtracks.
What about voice over / sound sync?
Yes we can do it! Special moments throughout the day can be recorded as sound bits and added as creative edits and sound overlays to any motion picture.
Do I get all the raw footage?
Typically we do not deliver this as it is not the finished product but if it is something that is important to you just let us know. This is because film is precious! Unlike digital video where you can just keep rolling and rolling, switch out a card and keep rolling some more, Super 8 and 16mm has strategically sought out, planned, and often creatively directed shots. We will capture the natural, intimate, and candid moments of your day. For larger wedding parties and extended films we will bring in extra cinematographers to help capture as much of your day as possible.
Tell me a bit more about the finished product.
As you will see this is not a typical wedding film. If you are looking for an artfully curated film highlighting the essence of your day, filled with emotion and connection, and shot and edited by the principle film makers themselves….. our films are for you!
Here’s where you say, “YES, we like you! What are the collections you offer like?”

We were contacted mid week last week by a lovely gentleman letting us know he would be stopping in town from Tennessee over the following weekend, marrying his bride while here, and then off that night for Holiday in Australia for the next month. They found us, we arranged the time and place to meet, and we were there. With all our gear in tow, we were their guests and story tellers. What an honer it is each time we get to be a part of these elopements. WE FELL IN LOVE, as we always do, with Bruce and Heather. We had to share just one frame from our sweet time with them. Lots more good stuff, including a beautiful film coming.
